Six controls, one safe session
Continue, Compact, Retry, Queue, Steer, and Stop control unfinished work without automatic replay or bypassing cleanup gates.
Continue
Continue creates a new turn linked to the latest eligible failed, cancelled, or step-limited turn. It recovers the objective and useful work and asks the agent to inspect current effects before acting. It is not a CPU-style execution-point resume. Uncertain tool outcomes, pending Queue work, or unverified cleanup block it.
gaionix-coder continue SESSION_ID [DIRECTION]
# TUI
/continue [DIRECTION]Compact
Compact reduces accepted session context using the shared summarizer. It may invoke one provider request. Explicit truncation, malformed structured output, provider error, or incomplete streams are rejected. Prior valid context survives rejection; there is no automatic summary retry.
gaionix-coder compact SESSION_ID --model MODEL_ID
# TUI or VS Code composer
/compactRetry
Retry is a deliberate fresh attempt for the latest eligible failed or timed-out task. It keeps the source objective and completed-work evidence. Completed, unstarted, and uncertain histories cannot be silently retried. The runtime rejects unresolved tool effects. Review external effects before requesting a new attempt.
gaionix-coder retry SESSION_ID
# TUI
/retryQueue
Queue durably records a follow-up while the runtime is busy. Admission identity protects against identical transport replay. A payload collision is rejected. After interruption, ambiguous delivery stays UNKNOWN instead of being assumed safe to repeat.
gaionix-coder queue list --workspace .
gaionix-coder queue status --workspace .
gaionix-coder queue add "Follow-up task" --workspace . --model MODEL_ID
gaionix-coder queue remove QUEUE_ID --workspace .CLI queue add is an execution command and may run immediately when the runtime is idle. It cannot attach a second runtime to a store already owned by another live client; use the active TUI or VS Code Queue control instead.
Steer
Steer adds direction to the active turn at the next safe boundary. It does not replay a completed tool. In the TUI, type the direction and press Ctrl+S. Headless interactive runs accept steering input; VS Code exposes Steer during active work.
Stop
Stop requests cancellation and waits for tool/process cleanup. TUI or headless runs use Ctrl+C; Ctrl+Q requests TUI exit after safe cleanup. The VS Code Stop control uses the same runtime cancellation path. An already-received provider request or external side effect cannot be withdrawn. If cleanup is unknown, future dispatch remains protected.
